BELOVED, HEAR THIS:
Yesterday, I started a topic on respect, which I believe needs to be thoroughly explained. Unfortunately, the value of respect has been lost in today’s modern society. As the saying goes, respect is reciprocal.
However, in our current era, some individuals who fail to show respect still expect to receive it, which is unsustainable. In our upcoming devotional, I will be going deeper into the concept of respect, providing insights and guidance on how to cultivate and reciprocate respect, with the hope that many will learn and benefit from it.
Respect is often misunderstood as merely a physical gesture, a courteous or polite action. However, true respect goes far beyond that. It’s not just about saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, or nodding in agreement.
Real respect is about valuing the very essence of another person – their thoughts, opinions, and values. It’s about recognizing that every individual has worth and dignity. When we respect someone, we acknowledge their right to think, feel, and believe differently than us.
Respect is about listening actively, seeking to understand, and considering the perspectives of others, even when we disagree. It’s about creating a safe space for open dialogue, where everyone feels heard, seen, and appreciated.
