Topic: OBEDIENCE: THE KEY TO VICTORY (2)
Scripture: [Job 36:11]
If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
BELOVED, HEAR THIS.
No one who obeys God will suffer defeat, but disobedience can lead to loss, as seen in the case of Achan.
During the conquest of Jericho, God commanded the Israelites to destroy the city and its contents, declaring them “accursed” (Joshua 7:1). He warned that taking spoils would bring trouble and destruction upon their camp. However, Achan disobeyed, secretly taking a beautiful robe, gold, and silver for himself.
This single act of disobedience kindled God’s anger against the entire nation of Israel. Joshua 7:1 records, “The children of Israel committed a trespass. Achan took of the accursed thing, and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel.
Achan’s disobedience had far-reaching consequences, empowering the enemy to defeat Israel. His sin affected the entire nation, demonstrating how one person’s rebellion can have devastating repercussions.
Achan defied Joshua’s instruction to consecrate all silver, gold, bronze, and iron vessels to the Lord, instead seizing them for himself. This singular act of disobedience led to defeat at the hands of their enemies.
One man’s disobedience can have devastating consequences for an entire nation.
